This is something we all need to think about. No doubt we've both grown up thinking that all these cleansers, makeup wipes, and face washes we've been buying our entire life are just normal. Our moms did it. Our grandmothers still probably douse themselves in Olay moisturizer every night before bed.
And in that routine, we've become stubborn and keep telling ourselves that there's no better way. Why buy more (and probably more expensive) products when the hundreds of dollars we've already spent on what we already have works just fine? On the other hand, this is our own bodies we're talking about! So why wouldn't we take the time to learn more about the actual effects of each product we're actually using on the largest organ in our bodies...our skin. These toxins that we're ignoring are just collecting in our bodies, causing health issues, and potentially affecting us in some majorly scary ways.
Did you know...
It takes only 26 seconds from the time something comes in contact with our skin until traces of it can be found in every organ of our body.
We need to start caring about the level of toxins in the products we're using daily. Once we did some research and read horrifying statistics, our conscience wouldn't even allow us to continue using what we had been using. We were unknowingly causing our bodies harm... All it takes is 26 seconds for those toxins to access your organs. It's time to KICK THOSE TOXINS TO THE CURB. You only get one of each organ. We don't know about you, but I'd like them to remain as healthy as possible. You agree? K. Let's keep going.
EUROPE VS. UNITED STATES
Tell us if this doesn't make you cringe...
"The European Union law bans 1,328 chemicals from cosmetics that are known or suspected to cause cancer, genetic mutation, reproductive harm or birth defects. In comparison, the U.S. FDA has only banned or restricted 11 chemicals from cosmetics." –Source
That pretty much speaks for itself. How is it that something considered so harmful (genetic mutation, reproductive harm, cancer) to another country labeled completely safe for us? There's obviously a huge lack of testing amongst an insanely flawed "grandfathering" system going on here. I'd highly recommend googling that information.
As you continue through this class, keep in mind which products you'd like to replace in your home. If you have an smartphone, stop reading right now and download the Think Dirty app. Warning: You may go crazy and start scanning everything in sight. This app analyzes the ingredients and rates its toxicity. I challenge you to scan the personal care products that seem like they'd be a good option, like green or brown bottles to look "earthy." Prepare to be shocked. The marketing smoke, mirrors, and lies are outrageous.
When some of us first got this app, we scanned EVERYTHING in our bathrooms. Needless to say, we walked out with a heaping trash bag full of products we had been using every day for YEARS that we had just learned contained high levels of carcinogens and possible reproductive harm. Things we were using on our kids.... To the curb, they went.
Now that you're probably frantically running around in a panic take a seat (and possibly a glass of wine) and let's talk about the GOOD news. You are already a member of a company who only offers toxin and worry-free products, my friends. Buckle up!
